By building a relationship based upon trust, empathy and acceptance, therapy enables a greater awareness and understanding of how and where difficulties have arisen and provides the conditions for change to occur.

ANDREA PERCY
BACP Accredited
Psychotherapist & Clinical Supervisor
MA, BSc(Hons.), PGDip, MBACP.

I offer individual counselling on a weekly basis in central Brighton.

I work relationally to help clients explore how past experiences and relationships might be impacting current difficulties. Counselling can help make changes to these often hard-wired patterns and facilitate the development of more healthy fulfilling relationships.

About Me

I specialise in Relational Psychotherapy and draw upon the philosophies and techniques from Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Attachment and Object Relations theories in my work. Essentially this means exploring the impact past experiences may have on our present situation and considering unconscious processes. However I also work in a more focused way with an emphasis upon the here and now, drawing upon CBT and Mindfulness based approaches.

Everyone has a unique story -  an integrative approach allows a flexibility where therapy can be tailored to a client’s individual needs and experience.

I am a fully qualified and insured BACP Accredited Psychotherapist and I abide by the BACP ethical standards.

I have extensive experience working with the following:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety and panic attacks

  • Abuse

  • Trauma and trauma bonds

  • Family and relationship issues

  • Eating disorders

  • Self-harm

  • Bereavement

  • Low self-esteem

Qualifications & Experience

  • Accredited Member: British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy

  • MA Counselling & Psychotherapy

  • Postgraduate Diploma Counselling & Psychotherapy

  • BSc Psychology - University College London

  • I have further training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MBCT) and Animal Assisted Therapy.

Andrea really has changed my life, as cheesy as it sounds. I have visited numerous counsellors over the past eight years in the attempt to alleviate the symptoms of my often overwhelming depression and anxiety.

Andrea is the only one, I feel, who has been able to truly make a difference to the way I look at things. Her patience, calming, caring but professional manner and determination to help create a long-term change in my mental health really has impacted me in the most positive of ways. I am now able to view the world and situations with a new found awareness and apply this to any hurdles that I may come across.

If you’re looking for a therapist who is knowledgeable, intelligent, insightful, caring and one of the best in her field, look no further than Andrea. She will, as the old adage goes, help you to help yourself and really will change your life for the better.
— Charlotte
I cannot recommend Andrea enough, I feel her style, method and personability will suit anyone who is looking to take the route of counselling.

Andrea is a brilliant therapist; a highly insightful counsellor; and an extremely caring human being.

I came to Andrea during an extremely vulnerable period in my life, having been referred to her for continued, specialist help. I had reported the abuse that had happened to me during my childhood to the police, and was in the midst of the uncertainty of court dates; the pressures of a trial; the pain of giving evidence; and the seemingly up-hill struggle of addressing the trauma itself. I’d also just received a diagnosis of Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder from a psychiatrist, and was only just beginning to come to terms with that.

By the time Andrea saw me, I’d been a patient of several other therapists over the years, each at different stages in my life. Some were good, others not quite so competent, but I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Andrea was and is right up there with the very best. It became clear from the start that Andrea genuinely cared about her clients, and always seemed to be able to find a way in which to put into words what I was feeling and going through...
